Supporting the call for international mobilisation to aid Tunisia
On the 15th of September, the signatories of the call for international mobilisation to aid Tunisia officially presented the content of this call in Paris, under the high patronage of Mister Jean Pierre Raffarin, former French Prime Minister and in the presence of Ouided Bouchamaoui, Nobel Peace Prize winner. This mobilisation is being done by the Kheireddine Cirle and the Prospective and Innovation Foundation, in collaboration with the Circle of economists, the Tunisian association of ‘Gr andes Écoles’ (prestigious higher education institutions), the association for democratic transition research, the initiative for the Economic and Social Development and Tunisian American Young Professionals.
Five years after the pacific revolution of 2011, “even though Tunisia has consolidated its democratic transition and continues to benefit from a strong wave of sympathy, the focus of the international community has been on the least frugal. We nonetheless have the collective responsibility to ensure that this transition is successful and prove that economic cooperation is the best barrier against extremists. It is therefore essential for the international community to show its solidarity with Tunisia so that it can set an example when it comes to social, economic and democratic change for the whole region and further afield” the signatories highlight.
The call proposes a 20 billion Euro program of international aid over five years; a clear declaration on the modalities of mobilisation and coordination between different financial institutions; an engagement, on an individual basis, for European countries to support Tunisia getting its status as an associated partner of the European Union with full access to structural European funds.
